I thought you might be interested in the photograph? I recently managed to obtain this group of medals. They were to Superintendent Tappenden from the Surrey Constabulary. I am still keen to hear of anything relating to Surrey Constabulary/Police, Guildford B. P. and Reigate B. P.
Gerry at HQ kindly assisted me with details of Supt Sidney Herbert Tappenden’s service history:
· Born in 1906 in the parish of Godstone, Surrey.
· Appointed on the 15/02/27.
· First stationed at Godalming on the 28/3/27.
· Served at the following police stations- Godalming, Egham, Addlestone, Weybridge, Oxted and then back to Weybridge
· Retired on the 17/10/59. He sadly passed away on the 30/12/71. His service described as exemplary
· Awarded four commendations
Defence Medal (green/orange ribbon) Awarded 04/02/46. Unnamed Coronation 1937 medal (blue/red/white ribbon) engraved PC 139 S H Tappenden; awarded 12/05/37. Coronation 1953 medal (red/blue/white ribbon) Awarded 02/06/53; unnamed Police Long Service medal (blue/white ribbon) engraved Supt Sidney H Tappenden awarded 02/09/51.
