The Dorking BoysPaul Hickman writes:I have been meaning to scan in the attached for some time – but the road to hell, as is said, is ….. That said, the mind has been focused, the task undertaken and maybe this contribution will be suitable for inclusion on the excellent ‘surrey-constabulary.com’ site. I have attached also a few photos sent to me by the photographer – the quality is not the best as they were proofs. The names of the officers involved is in the titles – although I regret that over time I have forgotten the names of some of the officers. The history is that during the Miners strike the boys from Dorking (the usual PSU of 1+2+20) were frequent visitors to Nottinghamshire. For a week in May 1984 we were shadowed by a lovely young reporter (Justine Picardie) and her photographer, Frank Herrmann. The outcome was a very small piece that appeared in the Sunday Times on 20th May that year – this was part of a larger feature highlighting the families of the miners and the ‘yard controller’ – David Hall.
