Divisional Areas:

Many of the recognisable police stations of the Surrey Constabulary days are rapidly disappearing. Monetary constraints have meant that Divisions have been reduced and buildings have been closed. Addlestone Police Station is now gone having been demolished in 2009. Other police stations are falling victim to shrinking budgets and police officers will soon find themselves based in Council Offices, Civic Centres, Libraries and Shopping Centres. The slides show the end of an era, the retirement of the Sergeant that even the then Chief Constable Sir Peter Matthews, recognised as ‘Chief Constable of Bagshot’ namely PS271 Eric Henry Arthur Shields. The photos were taken on the forecourt of the old Bagshot police office London Road, Bagshot on 2nd August 1979. The photos show, PC87 Rod Lucas, PC109 Bob Maidment, PC151 Dave Chatt, PC370 John Collett, PC789 Charlie Durden, Inspector John Sait, Ch/Insp Brian Cane and Supt McGregor. The 1920s print of the Bagshot Office was part of a display on the local police for the Silver Jubilee celebrations in June 1977.
